SHOPPING!

There’s a mistake here:

“I went to shopping.”

This is correct:

“I went shopping.”

In English, some activities are said with the following structure:

(form of GO) + (VERB)ING

GO + SHOPPING

GO + HIKING

GO + CAMPING

…etc.

A native speaker might also say:

DO + SOME + SHOPPING

DO + A LOT OF + SHOPPING

(form of DO) + (quantifier) + (VERB)ING

Both are correct:

“I went + shopping.”

“I did + some + shopping.”

Here are some other examples:

We wanted to go + shopping before lunch.

She’s going + shopping later today.

I did + quite a bit of + shopping last weekend.

Let’s go + camping next weekend.

It was a great trip. We did + a lot of + hiking.
